Strive for 5 Pages of a Good Book

October 31, 2024

Leaning into a daily reading habit can offer numerous benefits. The best part is, you don’t have to read much! Even just committing to reading 5 pages, or setting a timer for 5-10 minutes, can help you harness the power of the page.

So, pick up a book, your kindle, or an interesting article, for a wellness boost:

  1. Increased Knowledge: Regular reading expands your knowledge base, keeping you informed, up to date, and educated. It helps to expand your vocabulary and improve your grammar, both when you speak, and when you craft an email or text message.
  2. Improved Focus and Concentration: Daily reading trains your brain to focus, which can enhance your attention span. In the age of scrolling and short video clips, we are losing our ability to focus. Reading can help you increase your focus threshold.
  3. Mental Stimulation: Reading keeps your brain engaged, potentially reducing the risk of cognitive decline as you age. It can also help to improve your memory – by following along with characters and plot details, you are keeping your memory muscles sharp.
  4. Stress Reduction: Immersing yourself in a good story can provide a relaxing escape from daily stresses. It offers an alternative, controlled source of entertainment (whereas watching the news or scrolling social media is entertaining, they may increase stress or negative feelings).
  5. Increased Empathy: Engaging with different characters and perspectives can enhance your understanding of the feelings and experiences of others.
  6. Personal Growth: Books on self-help, philosophy, or personal development can motivate and inspire positive changes in your life.

Incorporating reading into your daily routine can lead to a more informed, engaged, and enriched life!
