Protein and Your Health Goals

September 17, 2025

Protein isn’t just for athletes or bodybuilders – it’s a critical nutrient for everyone, especially if you’re aiming to manage appetite, build lean muscle, or support long-term health. Here’s what makes protein such a nutritional powerhouse.

🏋️‍♀️ Muscle Maintenance and Metabolism

Protein provides the amino acids your body needs to build and repair muscle tissue. More lean muscle means a higher resting metabolic rate, which helps you burn more calories all day, (even at rest!)

⚖️ Weight Management

Getting enough protein can support fat loss while preserving lean mass during weight loss, which is essential for sustainable results. Protein also plays a critical role in helping your body feel satisfied, therefore, turning down the volume on hunger. Most people need about 30 grams per meal, spread throughout the day, to maximize muscle synthesis and appetite control. Individual needs vary, so be sure to check in with a MuuvWell Registered Dietitian if you’re curious about your personal protein and nutrient needs.

🍽️ Stable Blood Sugar

When paired with carbohydrates, protein helps slow digestion and reduce blood sugar spikes and crashes. Protein can stabilize blood sugar, and improve energy and mood throughout the day.

💪 Healthy Aging

As we age, we naturally lose muscle mass (this is called sarcopenia). Consistent protein intake helps preserve strength, mobility, and function, especially when combined with strength training.

Food for Thought

Protein is a key player in nearly every health goal – from appetite regulation to staying strong to aging well. Aim to include a high-quality protein source at each meal and snack, such as eggs, poultry, fish, tofu, lentils, cheese, nuts, Greek yogurt, or beans.
